In response to an incident that occurred at Bruceville-Eddy ISD on 02/08/2024, the Bruceville-Eddy Police Department has released the following statement to the public:

On 02/08/2024 at approximately 8:00 AM, a BEISD Jr High student was found to be in possession of an airsoft gun in his backpack. The Bruceville-Eddy Police Department was not immediately notified of this incident, our School Resource Officer (SRO), Officer Steiner was notified by BEISD Faculty on 02/08/2024 at approximately 2:46 PM after the incident had occurred. Immediately after Officer Steiner was notified, I Chief Michael Dorsey was notified by Officer Steiner, and the Bruceville-Eddy Police Department immediately began an investigation into this incident.

On 02/09/2024 the Bruceville-Eddy Police Department received new information related to this incident, that prompted a criminal investigation, to determine if a criminal offense has occurred. The Bruceville-Eddy Police Department is also conducting a separate administrative investigation into how BEISD internally responded to this incident. The Bruceville-Eddy Police Department has a zero tolerance for this type of behavior. Any criminal misconduct, or threats made to our Students, or School will be pursued to the fullest extent of the law.

The Bruceville-Eddy Police Department is committed to keeping our Community safe. It is our top priority to ensure that the Public, Citizens, Schools, and Students are Safe. The Bruceville-Eddy Police Department would also like to assure our Community that at the conclusion of our investigation, if a criminal offense has occurred, charges will be filed. There will also be accountability brought upon how the situation was handled, and to ensure that any future situations will be handled swiftly, and appropriately. At this time there is no current threat to our Students, and our Police Department will remain vigilant to ensure that our School remains safe for BEISD Students and Staff.
