Description
The Garden Club of Forest Hills is a community service organization that strives to stimulate knowledge and love of gardening; to protect native plants, trees and birds; and to support the greening of our neighborhoods. Now in its 101st year, the club is welcoming new leaders and moving to a new venue as it continues to offer stimulating, informational programs as well as spirited camaraderie.

Officers for 2024-25 are April Kline and Margaret Reed, sharing the duties of president; Flo Raisig repeating as treasurer; Eleanor Frazier Mohamed as first vice-president; Carolyn Collier as second vice-president; Cathy McFarland as recording secretary; and Suzanne Bennett as corresponding secretary.

The club will continue to meet on the first Thursday of each month from March through December but at a new venue -- Christ Lutheran Church, 400 Barclay Avenue, Forest Hills. Coffee and tea will be ready at 9:30 a.m. with the business meeting to begin at 10 a.m., followed by a gardening-related program and then a light lunch. Interested guests and new members are always welcome.

It sponsors fund-raising events such as its popular Plant Sale, to be held this year on Saturday, May 4, at its new venue, the Forest Hills Pool Lodge, and participates in borough activities such as Community Day. Funds raised help the club maintain its public gardens, including:
-- the Butterfly and Hillside gardens in Forest Hills' main park;
-- the daffodil/daylily and grass beds on Ardmore Boulevard;
-- the Avenues A&E Project, a dedicated green space at the junction of those streets.
The club funded the planting of daffodils along Braddock Road, selects a "Garden of the Month" in the borough and supports various like-minded efforts.

Check out the club on Facebook, and on several other websites, or contact Carolyn Reuter (412.233.8384 or cbreuter@verizon.net) for more information about The Garden Club of Forest Hills.
