Description
October 12 through 18 is the optimal time to experience vivid fall colors across the state according to the weekly fall foliage report by the state Department of Conservation and Natural Resources.

Northwestern counties are reporting peak conditions of a mix of yellow, red, and golden shades in their hickories, sugar maples, and black gum trees. North-central, west-central and southwestern counties are seeing fall colors across higher elevations, notably among the red maples and birch trees.

Many northeastern counties have already moved past peak foliage season, but patches of warm colors from oak and witch-hazel trees can be found throughout the area. Finally, the south-central and southeast are having a slow start to fall foliage, but cold weather could bring some changes to the dogwoods, sweet birch, and other trees in the coming weeks.

Enjoy “leaf-peeping” across our beautiful commonwealth!
