Description
The Harrison Township Police Department would like to remind motorists that tomorrow- August 31, 2023 is the first day back to school for Highlands School District! Please be sure to watch your speed in the school zones along Freeport Road and connectors where marked by School Zone signs.

If you see a pedestrian step into a crosswalk, motorists are required to stop to allow the pedestrian cross. If there are designated signals for pedestrians at an intersection, both pedestrians and motorists are required to follow the traffic control devices.

Remember that if you see a school bus with red flashing signals and the "STOP" sign activated you are required to stop to allow students to safely exit the school bus and get off of the roadway. This includes oncoming traffic even whenever there are four lanes on a non-divided highway. If you witness a vehicle running the red lights on a school bus, please get the license plate and report it to Harrison Township Police.

We can all do our part to keep our Highlands students safe!

Thank you and stay safe out there

Chief Brian Turack
