Description
Allegheny County Health Department’s Mosquito-Borne Disease Control Program (BU 1224) will be conducting a truck-mounted, Ultra Low Volume (ULV) spray event on Wednesday August 16th between 8pm and 11pm to decrease mosquito populations and reduce the risk of West Nile Virus (WNV) transmission. In case of inclement weather, the rain date will be Thursday, August 17th.
Areas of fucus will be the city neighborhoods of Arlington, Chartiers, South Side Slopes and Windgap. Mosquito spraying will also take place in Crafton Borough, Ingram Borough and Mt. Oliver Borough. Recent mosquito samples from these locations have tested positive for WNV.
The pesticide being applied is Zenivex E20 and is designed to provide quick, effective control of adult mosquito populations. Zenivex has a very low toxicity profile to mammals and has negligible impact on non-target insects and the environment. It will be released at just 0.6 ounce per acre.
