Description
Due to Dover Township having an inter-connection with the York Water Company, some of our customers may be affected by this message. The following was posted by York Water:
"We are aware and have received customer inquiries from customers who are noticing a possible taste and odor difference in the water. Please note that our water is safe to drink and there is no cause for concern. We cannot predict exactly how long the taste and odor will be noticeable, but we expect changes made in our treatment process will have a positive noticeable effect over the course of the week.
At times, more earthy aromas and mineral flavors can be noticed. Our water supply is a combined flow of the South and East branches of the Codorus Creek; the amount from each varies to meet our customers' needs and our sustainability requirements.
Ambient conditions including, but not limited to, warmer water temperatures, lower water levels, the lack of rainfall and snowfall this past winter, and after-effects from wildfires affect by-products of algae growth in lakes and rivers, making water take on different tastes and aromas. We are continuing to adjust our treatment processes to address your concerns and maintain an ample supply of clean and safe drinking water despite changes in source water quality.
Again, the water is and remains safe to drink. If you wish for your water to have less taste or aroma, using a carbon filter (most name-brand pitchers are carbon filters) and/or chilling the water should reduce any differences in taste/aromas."
