Description
During the pandemic, Pennsylvania did not require people receiving Medicaid or CHIP to complete renewal applications. This ensured no one lost health insurance during the public health emergency. However, this provision has now ended and consumers must re-enroll to see if they still qualify for state medical coverage.

Fortunately, the PA Dept of Human Services and Pennie, PA's health insurance marketplace, are working together to ensure residents keep access to health coverage, either through Medicaid, CHIP, or an affordable, high-quality plan through Pennie.

Here's how it works:
1) Anyone currently enrolled will receive information on how to submit their renewal application. Not everyone will renew at the same time, so it may be a few months until you receive your renewal packet. This is an ongoing process that will last through April 2024.

2) You can submit your renewal via phone, mail, at a County Assistance Office, or through the COMPASS website. If you still qualify for coverage, and you applied on time, your Medicaid or CHIP coverage will continue.

3) If you are no longer eligible for state coverage, your info will be securely shared with Pennie. You will receive a notice with a unique access code and will have a limited time to shop for coverage through a Special Enrollment Period.

4) If you missed your renewal window you can still shop on Pennie.com for coverage.
