The West Newton Police Department requests to alert the public in regards to an ongoing telephone scam in the West Newton area.
The caller originally initiated a call to individuals from a Telephone number which bears a number that appears to be located in Greensburg, Pa area. Shortly thereafter a second individual identifying themselves as a Sergeant with the West Newton Police Department calls and states that the person receiving the call is in legal trouble and subsequently requests that the individual initiate a bank transaction to rectify the matter. This call also bears the telephone number of the West Newton Police Department (724)872-8610 which is the actual number of our agency.
The West Newton Police Department does not engage in any form of telephone, computer or other electrical device to request or solicit money or any other form of financial transactions.
Any person who receives a call of this nature is asked to contact the West Newton Police Department at (724)872-8610.
