Description
Hi Crafton residents,
Pennsylvania has received new funding to expand high-speed, reliable broadband internet to all residents. As a first step, the FCC has created maps to see where internet access is insufficient. You can help by visiting this map by January 13 and checking to see if your home or business is shown accurately: https://broadbandmap.fcc.gov/home
What To know:
• Broadband is defined as *minimum* 25/3 (25 mbps download speed/3 mbps upload speed).
• Pennsylvania's goal is fixed internet service to every address with minimum speeds of 100/20 (100 mbps
download speed/20 mbps upload speed).
• If you have internet speeds lower than this, or no access at all, please report it via the FCC link above.
• Once you open the map, select "location" to search for your address.
• Click on the "Fixed Broadband" tab. Select the gear ?? icon to change settings. Strongly recommend you
select cable/fiber and verify that the map is accurate about whether your address has internet speeds of
25/3 as well as higher speeds of 100/20.
You are welcome to reach out to Councilmember Kirsten Compitello with questions. kcompitello@craftonborough.com
The PA Broadband Development Authority gave a more detailed description, as follows:
Pennsylvania Broadband Development Authority (Authority) Executive Director Brandon Carson today reminded Pennsylvanians of the important role they have in ensuring their information is correct in the new Federal Communications Commission (FCC) broadband access map.
“I urge every Pennsylvanian to review the map to help us close the digital divide,” said Carson. “The more accurate we can make the FCC map, the more we ensure we get a fair allocation of federal funding to expand broadband and ensure everyone has the same access to school, work, and public safety.”
During a visit to the Northern York County Regional Police substation in Spring Grove, Carson highlighted the importance that access to high-speed internet plays in public safety and urged Pennsylvanians to consider the difference they could make in their communities by reviewing the FCC map.
