Description
With the forecasted heavy rains for Veteran's Day, Public Works is out checking Storm Sewer Catch Basins that are covered with leaves to help prevent flooding. As they go through the neighborhoods, they will also get the stray leaf bags that had not been picked up this week.
DO NOT rake or blow leaves into the street! Penn Hills has an ordinance against putting your leaves or grass clippings in the street. DO NOT set leaf bags, garbage cans or garbage bags on top of Catch Basins. Not only can it cause flooding, but spilled leaves and garbage can enter the Storm Sewer System and either clog the system or pollute the streams and rivers.
Our Municipality has over 5,000 Catch Basins. If you notice the basin(s) near your home are covered with leaves, please clear them off if you are able.
