Virginia Montanez is a celebrated Pittsburgh writer, columnist, and novelist known for her witty and insightful commentary on the city and its culture. She first gained local notoriety as the anonymous blogger "PittGirl," and has since become a prominent voice in Pittsburgh's literary scene.
Montanez is the author of the novel Nothing. Everything., and her work has been featured in publications like Pittsburgh Magazine, where she is a history columnist, and the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette. She is also the creator of the Substack newsletter "Breathing Space" and the historical mapping project "Pittsburgh Remains to be Seen." Known for her humor and candid style, she writes about a wide range of topics, including local history, personal experiences, and her love of space exploration.
Whether you're familiar with her anonymous blogging days or her recent historical columns, a program with Virginia Montanez promises a engaging and entertaining exploration of writing, Pittsburgh, and the human experience. Virginia will be here to discuss The Great Fire of 1845 (destroyed up to 1/3 of downtown. How did it start? What was lost? What was Pittsburgh's response? What artifacts are still visible today from this fire?)
This program will take place in the Township Community Center.
