“Two Lights for Tomorrow” Commemoration
April 18, 2025

Part of Nationwide Initiative Honoring the 250th Anniversary of American Independence

Gettysburg, Pa. (April 10, 2025)—As the United States prepares to commemorate its 250th anniversary, Seminary Ridge Museum and the Gettysburg Foundation will co-host a public event, “Two Lights for Tomorrow,” honoring one of the foundational moments in American history—Paul Revere’s midnight ride on April 18–19, 1775.

The event will take place Friday, April 18, from 7 to 8:30 p.m. at the Seminary Ridge Museum and Education Center located at 111 Seminary Ridge, Gettysburg. Sponsored by America250PA–Adams County, the commemorative program is part of a nationwide initiative to unite Americans in a shared reflection on the nation’s founding ideals and future aspirations.

Inspired by the two lanterns placed in Boston’s Old North Church, this symbolic event will feature a ceremonial lighting of two lanterns in the historic cupola of the Lutheran Seminary, honoring the signal that launched the American Revolution.

Attendees can enjoy a reading of Paul Revere’s Ride, insights into Gettysburg’s connections to the events of 1775 and a series of family-friendly activities, including paper lantern and luminary making for children.

“Two hundred and fifty years ago, two brave men risked their lives and liberty to help establish American democracy,” said Dr. Judy Morley, executive director of Seminary Ridge Museum. “Four score and eight years later, their great grandsons fought on the fields of Gettysburg to save that same democracy. We are so excited and grateful to honor all of these brave men with hopes to inspire others to make a difference.”

“The Gettysburg Foundation is proud to co-sponsor Two Lights for Tomorrow,” said Jackie Spainhour, president and CEO of the Gettysburg Foundation. “As we look ahead to America’s 250th anniversary, this initiative powerfully connects our founding ideals with Gettysburg’s enduring legacy of unity and sacrifice.”

This free, family-friendly event is open to the public. Attendees are encouraged to bring chairs or blankets. For more information, visit seminaryridgemuseum.org/events or GettysburgFoundation.org/exhibits-tours-events/special-events#TwoLights.
