On Sunday, March 9, the York County SPCA will WAIVE ALL CANINE ADOPTION FEES for their March Muttness – Dog Adoption Event Presented by First Capital Federal Credit Union. This event will be held from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., and adoptions are first come, first served. While adoption fees are waived, attendees should bring their credit card for purchases, including leashes or collars, dog license fees, pre-adoption testing, or carriers. This will be a cashless event.

The YCSPCA is dedicated to providing comprehensive care to our animals, including spay/neuter surgery, all vaccinations, microchipping, an up-to-date medical exam, heartworm testing and preventative, flea and tick treatment, and other relevant testing. If obtained at a vet’s office, these services would cost more than $500. However, our standard adoption fees include those services for $275 or less, depending on the animal.
The YCSPCA recommends that potential adopters fill out an adoption questionnaire on our website and browse our available adoptable animals before attending an event. This will help streamline the adoption process and ensure a smooth experience. We also encourage you to make a lifesaving donation with cash or a card during this event to support the animals in the YCSPCA’s care. Your contribution, no matter the size, can make a significant difference. When browsing adoptable animals on our website, please note animal locations in their website listings. Most of our adoptable pets are at the Brougher Companion Animal Shelter. However, others are in foster homes and would require a meeting at another time. In these incidences, we would still honor the waived adoption fee.

Please complete a general dog adoption questionnaire HERE -> https://www.shelterluv.com/matchme/adopt/YORK/Dog at least THREE DAYS IN ADVANCE of the event to allow our staff to have ample time to review the questionnaire and touch base with any questions.
Though it is not required, we recommend bringing all human and canine members of your household to ensure the dog is the right fit for your whole family.
If you bring a dog - they must have a collar and be ON A LEASH. **PLEASE NO RETRACTABLE LEASHES IF POSSIBLE – for the dog meets, slip-lead leashes are preferred. * When you arrive, first stop at the welcome/check-in table before browsing the kennel. Please leave your dog(s) in your vehicle with the A/C running until you can grab them for a meet and greet. You may walk them around the grass areas to the right of our building until they are ready for a meet.
PLEASE BRING YOUR OWN COLLAR AND LEASH IF YOU PLAN ON ADOPTING A NEW DOG! We have limited available for purchase.
If you are interested in more than one dog, please have a list of your top 4-5 dogs in mind so our staff can better assist you. You can walk through the kennel to see our available dogs!
Once you enter the shelter, staff and volunteers will assist you. Most dogs will be able to go home on the event day. However, some may require pick-up on another day. Please be patient with our staff and volunteers.
